Maintaining Your HVAC System
Your HVAC system is a major investment and you will want to do whatever necessary to keep it running efficiently for many years. Here are some maintenance tips to avoid costly repairs and save on energy bills.
Many people neglect one thing that is very easy and inexpensive to do and it will extend the life of your system. That is changing the filter regularly and anyone can do this simple maintenance job. How often you change your filter will depend on the type, so follow the recommendations on the package. I actually know someone who did not replace their filter for several years and had to replace several parts of their HVAC system. A dirty filter will restrict air flow and that will make the motor work harder and this causes two things to happen. Your energy bills will go up and your motor's life will be shortened. So take a few minutes to change out the filter and mark your calendar when it needs to be replaced.
If you have a heat pump, it is important to check the outside unit and make sure it has no debris or vegetation close to it that will impede air flow. If the coils are dirty, you will need to clean them.
Yearly inspection and maintenance is crucial to make sure your HVAC system will not need costly repairs or fail altogether. A qualified technician from Central Services Heating and Air Conditioning Services can perform this yearly maintenance for your HVAC system and make sure it is running at optimum efficiency. We will measure the air flow and check for air leaks in ducts and refrigerant leaks. We will oil the motor, check the electrical connections, and make sure the belts are in good shape and are the right tension.
